About Me My name is Meagan Giblin. I am currently a senior at the University of Cincinnati. I am from a very small town in Northwest Ohio, therefore moving to Cincinnati was a huge change for me. I am majoring in nursing. I was given the amazing opportunity to be directly admitted into UC’s nursing program, and am now working very hard to maintain my spot and achieve my goals in life. I have wanted to be a nurse ever since I was a little girl. I went to visit my great grandpa all the time while he was in a nursing home, and I became fascinated with the medical field. I would constantly ask the nurses questions about what they were doing to my grandpa and what equipment they were using. As years went by, my compassion to be a nurse became even stronger. My little sister was diagnosed with a genetic disorder, known as Rett Syndrome at the age of one and half. She is currently nine years old and does not walk or talk. Her journey thus far has not been a good one by any means, but it made me strive to want to help others even more. Even though my sister does not walk or talk, her smile and bright eyes are worth a thousand words. Her smile has taught me to love in a new way. Nurses are whom people turn to for exceptional care, communication, and a friend. I’ve attended many of my sister’s doctors' appointments and the way nurses care for her is indescribable. Watching them made me realize that I have the qualities to be a nurse.
Upon achieving my bachelor’s degree in nursing I would love to go on and earn my master’s degree. My dream in life is to become a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. I am a very independent person and I would someday like to have my own practice. I adore children and I believe furthering my education would give me many more opportunities to be able to care for them. Outside of education and my aspirations to become a nurse I am very actively involved. I am in many groups at UC, such as CHAARG, Nellie’s catwalk for Kids, UC Fit for Life, and play on an intramural soccer team. I also volunteer in any way I can. I have volunteered at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital on the bone marrow transport floor and the emergency department. I also spend a majority of my free time volunteering at the Ronald Mcdonald House. This summer I was chosen to be a part of UC's College of Nursing Co-Op program at Cincinnati Children's Hospital. Please read more in my Junior year bio about this amazing experience! All and all, I am a very ambitious, fun-loving, compassionate individual with many goals and dreams in life. |
